In addition to eating a healthy balanced diet, follow these guidelines to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Be physicially active as part of everyday life
Physical activity is so important. It can help you to achieve your ideal body weight, reduce inflammation by losing fat, improve insulin response, increase lean muscle mass, and protect bone density.

Changing diet alone will result in about equal loss of fat and muscle. Diet with exercise can spare muscle loss. For every 10 pounds of weight loss, about 7.5 pounds will be of fat and only 2.5 pounds will be of muscle if exercise is included in your daily lifestyle.

Daily exercise is most effective. Sit and Be Fit is a great program for people with physical restrictions. Yoga is actively being studied as a supportive cancer therapy; although, it may not be appropriate post surgery.

Get adequate sleep and improve stress management
Increased stress has been associated with increased risk of certain cancer types. Stress has a negative impact on the insulin response, increases inflammation and promotes many other physiological changes in your body.

Reduce stress, reduce fear, resolve conflicts, connect with others, and most importantly, get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Yoga, meditation, guided imagery, hypnosis, biofeedback, spiritual practices, counseling, support groups, and exercise are all great ways to help improve stress management.
