Dr. Peter J. Schlegel M.D. studied Aeronautical Engineering at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD., followed by studies in Secondary Education at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He received his M.D. degree from Rush Medical College, Chicago, IL., in 1994 and proceeded with his Internal Medicine Residency at University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, followed by an Oncology Fellowship in 1999, also at the University of Utah.

Dr. Schlegel is interested in community cancer education and has provided lectures on a number of topics ranging from innovative cancer treatments to the breast cancer prevention STAR trial. He has published several articles including subjects such as carcinoid syndrome, chronic myelogenous leukemia, and drug-induced hemolytic anemia.

Dr. Schlegel came to Cancer Care Northwest from Olympic Hematology and Oncology Associates in Bremerton, WA. He is an active member of the Southwest Oncology Group, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Spokane County Medical Society. He is board certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology.
