Dr. Maryam Parviz joined Cancer Care Northwest in August of 2003 as a Surgical Oncologist, focusing exclusively on cancer surgery. She has extensive training in the care and surgical management of all gastrointestinal cancers, breast and melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, as well as pancreatic and hepatobiliary (liver) cancers.
Dr. Parviz completed her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry/Cell Biology at the University of California, San Diego. She then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin where she completed her Medical Degree and general surgery residency. During her residency, Dr. Parviz completed a six-month rotation, primarily focused on breast surgery, at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in Exeter, England. While in England, she received the Outstanding Surgical Trainee Award from the British Journal of Surgery. Dr. Parviz devoted an additional year during her residency to participating in laboratory research with the Medical College’s Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. She then continued her postgraduate training at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia, where she completed a fellowship in surgical oncology.
Dr. Parviz has participated extensively in oncology related laboratory research, investigating the role of immunotherapy and cancer vaccines in the treatment of solid tumors. She has participated in several clinical trails sponsored by the National Surgical Adjuvant Bowel and Breast project since 2001 and has authored several articles in peer review journals.
