Dr.
Ryan Holbrook merged his busy practice with Cancer Care
Northwest in September 2002. As a surgical oncologist
and breast surgeon, he focuses exclusively on cancer
surgery and has extensive training and experience in
many areas of oncology. He is responsible for bringing
several new innovative surgical techniques to the Inland
Northwest, including sentinel lymph node biopsy for
both melanoma and breast cancer. He has extensive experience
in pancreas and liver surgery and introduced cryosurgery
and radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of liver
cancers. Dr. Holbrook specializes in all cancers of
the intestinal tract as well as the surgical treatment
of soft tissue sarcomas. He has published numerous articles
and given extensive presentations on a wide range of
cancer related topics.
Dr.
Holbrook received his undergraduate degree from Brigham
Young University and his medical degree from Northwestern
University Medical School. He began general surgery
training at New England Medical Center in Boston, and
completed a clinical fellowship with a joint appointment
at Massachusetts General Hospital. He finished his general
surgery residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Dr. Holbrook then completed a two-year fellowship in
surgical oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in
Buffalo, NY. His final fellowship was in pancreas, liver
and biliary surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center
in Seattle. He has been in practice in Spokane since
1995, focusing exclusively on cancer surgery.
Dr.
Holbrook is active in a wide range of medical and cancer
related organizations. He is the director of Surgical
Oncology at Deaconess Medical Center, a member of the
board of directors of the American Cancer Society and
cofounder of the Inland Northwest Cancer Conference,
as well as the past director of the Sacred Heart Cancer
and Research Center and former vice-president of the
Spokane County Medical Society. |
