CCNW Donates X-Ray Machine to Group in Fiji

An X-ray machine purchased in 2001 for Cancer Care Northwest patients will soon have a new home in Fiji.

The X-ray machine, previously housed at the North office, will be utilized by physicians for local patients on the small island. It will be placed between the countries only two other available X-ray machines, improving access to health care for thousands.

“In Fiji, they only have one or two of these machines,” said Warren Benincosa, Executive Director of Cancer Care Northwest. “The people living there would travel for miles over several days to have an X-ray taken. By donating this machine, we are reducing travel and making a big difference for these families.”

The X-ray machine has become outdated for Cancer Care Northwest. It costs more to take the film, have it processed and read than for what we get reimbursed. The machine is a diagnostic tool and can be used to diagnose certain conditions, take pictures of broken or dislocated bones and more.

In lieu of the X-ray machine, the North office will use the CT scanner for patients needing images taken.

“It will certainly have a much longer, more fulfilling life placed in Fiji than it will here.” Benincosa added.
